Recent hurricanes highlight need for additional travel insurance cover

Added 14/10/2016

Recent hurricanes hitting the Caribbean and United States highlight the need to think about how your holiday could be affected by a Natural Catastrophe, and who foots the bill.

There was wide-spread damage, flooding and flight cancellations in Bermuda yesterday as a hurricane Nicole struck the island with gusts up to 125 mph.

Hurricane Nicole follows hot on the heels of hurricane Matthew which last week caused serious damage in Haiti before moving on to the south-eastern United States.

Add Natural Catastrophe Cover for extra protection

In the event of a hurricane or other natural catastrophic event such as an earthquake, flood or volcanic eruption forcing you to cancel your holiday or disrupting your holiday whilst you are away, you can get extra protection from your travel insurance by adding Natural Catastrophe Cover.

Natural Catastrophe cover provides additional cover if a catastrophic natural event disrupts your holiday. It provides cover for cancellation, if the event happens before you travel, and additional accommodation/travel expenses to help you return home, if the event happens whilst you are away.  It is designed to give extra protection for those who have booked their holiday independently.

Natural Catastrophe cover is available to add to any of our Silver, Gold or Platinum policies and includes cover for cancellation up to £1500 per person and additional expenses to enable you to return home up to £150 per day (£1500 in total).

If your holiday takes the form of a package booked with a tour operator they will have a duty to look after you in this situation, so the additional travel insurance cover would not be necessary.
