P&O’s new cruise ship, Azura, arrived on the south coast of Britain in April to meet the growing demands of the cruise ship industry. It is estimated that the number of British holiday makers booking cruise holidays will continue to increase over the next five years.

Based in Southampton this summer, Azura will be taking British holiday makers to the Mediterranean, the Baltic and the Canary Islands. Aimed at veteran cruise passengers, the ship was built with luxury in mind, and it can accommodate 3,100 passengers.

There are cabins to cater for couples and families alike, and solo travellers can benefit from supplement-free accommodation; a first for P&O cruises. Over 900 cabins have balconies, and for pure indulgence, there are 206 spa cabins to choose from.

You won’t be spoilt for choice at meal times. The buffet and poolside grill offer quick and tasty bites. For a more indulgent choice, try the onboard Indian restaurant, opened by Michelin-star chef Atul Kochhar, or head to Seventeen, a British-style restaurant offering fine dining fare.

The Azura was designed to supply first class entertainment and luxury to passengers. You can relax on the spa terrace, take some gentle exercise in the gym or enjoy a film at the huge outdoor cinema. If you fancy a tipple, there are 12 watering holes to choose from, including the Glass House, Manhattan and the Planet Bar. Most evenings live cabaret and dance acts take to the stage.

For the ultimate in relaxation, Azura has an adults-only lounge to get away from all the school children on their summer holidays. It costs a few pounds for half a day, but it’s worth it for the peace and quiet.

Azura was officially named by the ship’s godmother, ballet star Darcey Bussell, during a lavish naming ceremony.

At 115,000 tons, Azura is the largest cruise ship in the seven-strong P&O fleet.

If you fancy a trip on the Azura this summer, remember to book cruise travel insurance. Cruises are covered as standard with goodtogoinsurance.com travel insurance policies.
