Date confirmed for lateral flow tests to replace PCRs

Added 15/10/2021

At last, the government has confirmed the date that lateral flow tests will replace PCRs for fully vaccinated travellers and under 18s returning to England from countries not on the red list.

From 24 October fully vaccinated travellers and under 18s will be able to take a cheaper lateral flow test in place of a PCR on arrival in England. This must be taken on or before day 2 after arrival.

Passengers will be able to book a lateral flow test for travel from a list of private providers on the gov.uk website from 22 October.

To verify the results passengers will need to take a photograph of their test and booking reference and send it back to the supplier.

Alternatively, there is an option to book a test which can be taken on arrival at testing centres located in some airports.

Anyone who tests positive will need to self-isolate and take a confirmatory NHS test and trace PCR test, free of charge.
