Japan Tsunami - Information for UK travellers

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) are advising against all non-essential travel to Tokyo and the North East of Japan, following the devastating earthquake and tsunami on 11 March.
There continues to be a risk of aftershocks and tsunamis throughout the Asia Pacific region. The nature of the disaster means that the threat of a tsunami is changing regularly, so it is vital check the latest information.
If you have a trip to Japan planned you should contact your tour operator for the latest information. Please note that if you travel against FCO advice you will not be covered by your travel insurance.
FCO Helping British Nationals in Japan
The FCO are working hard to ascertain the whereabouts and safety of British Nationals in Japan. British nationals who are currently in Japan should contact the Foreign Office if they need assistance, or to report that they are safe. Friends and family in the UK can call the FCO helpline for information. They should also contact the FCO to let them know if they know their loved ones to be safe.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office are urging British Nationals to observe any advice they are being given by the Japanese authorities on the ground, including the 20km exclusion zone around the Fukushima nuclear plant.
