France: FCO warns drivers of fuel shortages

Added 25/05/2016

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its travel advice to warn those going to France about wide spread fuel shortages:  Earlier in the week up to a quarter of France’s petrol stations were closed completely.

The shortages are a result of industrial action in opposition to planned reforms of labour laws.

The FCO advice states:

Following industrial action (blockades of fuel depots), fuel purchasing restrictions have been put in place by local authorities in some parts of France. In certain areas you may not be able to fill up jerrycans, and fuel rationing may be imposed. Some petrol stations may have run out of some types of fuel.

The FCO also recommends those planning to drive in France in the coming days check the Mon-essence.fr website. They have produced a map to help motorists identify petrol stations where fuel is not available.
