Ensuring your travel insurance claim is successful

Making a successful travel insurance claim requires attention to detail and adherence to policy terms. Here are some things to be aware if you want to make sure your travel insurance claim is successful.

Double-check dates and destinations

Accuracy in your policy details is paramount. When purchasing travel insurance, make sure the dates and destinations are correct. This information must match your travel itinerary exactly. Any discrepancy will lead to the rejection of your claim. If your plans change, notify us immediately.

Declare ALL pre-existing medical conditions

One of the most common reasons for claim denial is the non-disclosure of pre-existing medical conditions. When applying for travel insurance, declare all known medical conditions honestly. Even if a condition seems minor or irrelevant, it’s better to disclose it. Good to go insurance will need complete information to assess risk and provide appropriate cover. Failure to do so will void your policy, leaving you unprotected.

Contact the helpline

If you require emergency medical treatment during your trip, inform Good to go immediately. We have a 24/7 claims helpline for emergencies. Calling this helpline will enable you get the necessary assistance and starts the claim process. Delays in reporting will lead to denial of the claim.

Activities

Our standard travel insurance policies exclude cover for hazardous sports and activities. If you plan to engage in hazardous sports and activities you will need to purchase additional cover. Make sure you take a look at our category A, B & C hazardous activity wording so that you understand what we consider a hazardous activity to be and ensure you have adequate protection. Without it, any claim related to injuries from these activities will be denied.

Category A is a free add on and included common activities such as swimming (Pool and Beach swimming within a marked area with a lifeguard only), golf, bowls and racket sports.

Keep documentation with you

Successful claims hinge on thorough documentation. Keep all receipts, medical reports, police reports (in case of theft or loss), and any other relevant documents. For medical claims, ensure you have a doctor’s report detailing the diagnosis and treatment. For lost or stolen items, a police report is essential. The more detailed and organised your documentation, the smoother your claim process will be.

Stay within policy limits

Make sure that you buy a policy with the right levels of cover for your trip so that you are not out of pocket if you need to claim. The policy you choose should have enough cancellation cover for the cost of your trip. Think about the level of baggage cover you need. If you are taking smart phones or tablets, you might want to purchase additional gadget cover. There are many optional extras such as waiting list cover & natural catastrophe cover that you may wish to consider.
