The Kelkoo Beach Index has revealed that the Black Sea Coast in Bulgaria can offer the best beach holiday to Brits travelling overseas this summer. The survey took into account factors like climate, accommodation costs, attractions and foreign exchange rates.

The survey showed that Brits put the price of a holiday as a high priority. Flights to Bourgas are relatively cheap, starting from £125 return from Manchester, Gatwick and Luton airports.

A week in a one bedroom self catering apartment can cost as little as £130 in the height of summer, while some five star hotels are a manageable £35 per person per night.

Bulgarian currency is the Bulgarian Lev, and there are plenty of ATMs in the Black Sea resorts if you run out of cash. Foreign credit cards are also becoming more readily accepted at supermarkets and hotels in all the popular resorts.

Sunny Beach and Golden Sands are the busiest Bulgarian resorts on the Black Sea Coast, while Albena is more picturesque and Nesebar and Varna are great historical hotspots.

The survey also showed that Brits rank climate as being an important aspect when choosing a holiday destination. The Black Sea Coast in Bulgaria is dry and warm throughout the summer, with average high temperatures reaching 27°C in July and August. The sea temperature is also lovely and warm at around 25°C.

The Black Sea Coast in Bulgaria is blessed with beautiful golden beaches and the Black Sea lends itself to excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities. Diving centres often take trips to the sites of old shipwrecks that are now havens for underwater life.

As well as relaxing on the beach or enjoying the many water sports on offer, a holiday in Bulgaria could also include cycling tours, visits to ancient spas or national parks, or hiking trips on marked paths through the mountains.

With so much on offer and really affordable prices, the Black Sea Coast in Bulgaria could be one of the best beach holiday destinations out there.
