Not everyone wants to join throngs of people on New Year’s Eve. Some like to spend a more relaxing evening in the company of loved ones, or even just a partner. If you want to spend New Year abroad but you want to beat the crowds, you have many options for spending a more relaxed evening eating delicious food and viewing the fireworks displays from the comfort of your accommodation or cruise.

Take a New Year’s Eve cruise and you could enjoy live music, dancing and fine dining all on board the boat. Some New Year’s Eve cruises also allow you to view midnight fireworks from the comfort of the boat. The Vancouver Gala New Year’s Eve Boat Cruise offers just such an experience.

There are also special New Year’s Eve cruises on offer on the Seine, Rhine and Danube if you want to take a cruise that’s a bit closer to home.

Another option that gives you a similar atmosphere to New Year’s Eve cruises is to take a special train journey that celebrates the New Year. The Glacier Express in Switzerland travel from Brig to Chur on New Year’s Eve. You don’t actually celebrate midnight on the train, but you can enjoy a nice lunch, with the chance to view fireworks in Chur from the rooftop of your accommodation for the night.

If transportation for New Year’s Eve isn’t your thing, then you could enjoy New Year’s Eve from the comfort of a hotel in a destination of your choice. Many hotels will be hosting special New Year events with fine dining and entertainment. Be sure to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
